Given the limitations of the study, we were able to find an association between exposure to lead at work and abnormal serum lipid profile. More studies are needed to examine the mechanism behind that association. In addition, more studies are needed to study the effect of adherence to personal protective measures on blood lead level and serum lipid profile.

Lipid profile and apolipoproteins were analyzed in 50 normotensive pregnant (Group I) and 50 pregnant women with PIH (Group II) and in their cord blood respectively. In present study, significantly elevated lipid profile, apolipoprotein levels, atherogenic index in maternal and cord blood of PIH mothers were observed as compared to normotensive mothers. It can be concluded that in utero environment changes the structure, physiology and metabolism of fetus before birth and thereby determines the development of cardiovascular disease in later life. Data on lipoproteins, in maternal and cord blood can serve as a starting place for disease risk stratification and preventive interventions in the form of life style modification, since roots for adult heart disease began in utero and abnormal lipoprotein profile in childhood persists into adulthood.

Porosity reduction in sediment conveniently indicates the degree of sediments compacted after deposition. Published empirical curves- the compaction curves- are depth-wise porosity variation through which change in pore spaces from sediment surface to deeper depths e.g. up to 6 km can be delineated. Porosity is derived from well logs. Compaction curves, referred to as the Normal Porosity Profile of shales, sandstones and shale bearing sandstones of different models are reviewed along with the different mechanical and chemical compaction processes. These compaction models reveals how porosity reduces depth-wise and the probable reason for anomalous zones. Deviation from these normal compaction trends may indicate abnormal pressure scenarios: either over- or under pressure. We highlight global examples of abnormal pressure scenarios along with the different primary- and secondary mechanisms. Well logs and cores being the direct measurements of porosity, well log is the only cost-effective way to determine porosity of subsurface rocks. Certain well logs can detect overpressure and the preference of one log above the other helps reduce the uncertainty. Apart from delineation of under-compacted zones by comparing the modeled- with the actual compaction, porosity data can also estimate erosion.

Building Load Analysis and Forecasting

This research focuses on developing methodologies for building load analysis and forecasting. A set of one-year, 15-min energy consumption data, collected at a substation feeder supplying the Centennial Campus load at the NC State University, is used in the study. The correlations of building load consumption with respect to the outdoor temperature, type of the day, time of the day, and humidity are studied. Then, four two-hour-ahead forecast methods are developed. The performance of each method in terms of accuracy, robustness, and efficiency is compared. The contributions of the research are 1) the building energy signatures allow building owners to identify abnormal operation scenarios and quantify the status of building operation states, 2) the load profile analysis helps building owners to decide how to optimize the building operation by shifting consumptions, and 3) the load forecasting methods predicting future operation conditions help building owner to take precaution on abnormal operation conditions to avoid economic losses and improve operational reliability.
