Learn about the condition of Hemophilia with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series. The term hemophilia describes hemorrhagic, or bleeding, disorders. The most common of these disorders is caused by a deficiency of protein in the blood known as “blood-clotting factor”. There needs to be at least 30% of the clotting factor for the blood to clot normally. Less than 30% results in the blood being slow to clot, causing bleeding for a longer time than someone with a regular amount of clotting factor. Internal bleeding, usually into joints and muscles, is the most common form of bleeding sustained by those suffering from hemophilia. This can result from an incident such as a fall, or even spontaneously, with no apparent cause. Joint bleeds result in restriction of movement, swelling, heat, and an abnormal redness on and around the joint. Muscle bleeds can generate swelling, pain, and numbness of the affected area and an inability to move the limb. This bleeding can damage organs and tissues and is sometimes fatal. Perfect to listen to while commuting, exercising, shopping or cleaning the house.. iMinds brings knowledge to your MP3 with 8 minute information segments to whet your mental appetite and broaden your mind. iMinds offers 12 main categories; become a Generalist by increasing your knowledge of Business, Politics, People, History, Pop Culture, Mystery, Crime, Culture, Religion, Concepts, Science and Sport. Transcranially-Induced Motor Evoked Potentials

Revision with unchanged content. The assessment of sport-related concussions is hindered by lack of a neuroanatomic or neurophysiologic assessment of injury severity and recovery timeframe. We set out to determine if motor evoked potentials are different between acutely concussed and non-concussed collegiate athletes and determine if any relationships exist between MEP changes, self-reported symptoms and neurocognitive deficits. MEP thresholds, latencies, and amplitudes, scores on a self-reported symptoms checklist, and scores from a neurocognitive test battery were evaluated in 18 collegiate athletes (9 concussed, 9 controls). The observed MEP changes provide electrophysiological evidence for the acute effects of cerebral concussion in an athletic population. Alterations in neurochemical and neurometabolic processes following concussions may explain these abnormal MEPs, postconcussive symptoms, and deficits in neurocognitive function.

Athletes participating in sports requiring overhead motions, such as baseball, softball, volleyball, swimming, water polo, tennis, and various throwing events in track and field, present a challenge to the athletic trainer and sports medicine staff. Areas of concern include excessive anterior joint capsule laxity, posterior joint capsule tightness, limited posterior and anterior shoulder musculature flexibility, strength and endurance imbalances of dynamic stabilizers, mechanical stresses which disrupt normal biomechanics, poor sport-specific mechanics, and abnormal postural alignment, which lead to shoulder instability or impingement. This manual will highlight areas of concerns and present rehabilitation techniques consisting of range of motion and flexibility, strength and endurance, neuromuscular control (closed-kinetic- chain and plyometric training), aquatic therapy, functional progressive activities, and a preventative in-season program.
